Gay mountain bike
Cycling has traditionally been a pretty male-dominated sport. Whether its the Tour de France or local group rides, men have been at the center. While women and genderqueer riders are allowed in male oppressed spaces, we havent always felt welcome there. Thats why Im so thrilled to turn the spotlight on the growing number of queer bike clubs that are functional to make cycling more welcoming and inclusive for lgbtq+, non-binary, and femme-identified riders!
Being a girl or nonbinary rider in a male cycling group often means facing pressure to keep up or be left behind. Or existence given unsolicited consultation on bike gear or riding way by someone who assumes you must be less experienced due to your gender. While there are supportive male allies in cycling groups, the overall vibe is often competitive.
The new wave of bike clubs celebrate diversity and cultivate supportive environments tailored to the needs of gay, trans, non-binary and femme cyclists.
And they are grounded in a supportive and inclusive, all levels welcome framework.
Group rides are frequently no drop–
Coming OUT On A Ride
We're trying to do more here at NSMB to make riders of all kinds to feel relaxed, understood, and safe. We believe mountain biking is a sport that could use more diversity and representation, and we wish to use this platform to allow voices to be heard that aren't always given their due. Thank you to Matt Bradshaw for writing this and sharing with us and all of you. -The NSMB crew

About OUT MTB
OUT MTB was started in by a group of friends who knew each other through OutdoorLads, a well-known nonprofit for gay men that organises walks, camping trips, and more.
Wanting to share our love for mountain biking (and gravel riding) with the wider LGBTQ+ people, we decided to become our own entity so we can fully focus on our passion.
Our Ride Captains
Our Ride Captains are all volunteers with a love for Mountain Biking and keen to help others get into the sport and help existing Mountain Bikers explore the spacious array of trails that the UK has to offer. They are all outdoor first-aid trained and have a wealth of skills and experience to resolve issues out on the trails.
Notice how were all cis same-sex attracted men? Please help us change into more inclusive. Read more →
